Exploring 3D Printed Prosthetic Cover Design

Principal Investigator: Johanne Mattie, Applied Research MAKE+, BCIT

Researchers at Barber Prosthetics and the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) are
conducting surveys to get feedback about the benefits, limitations, durability, and wear of
lower limb prosthetic covers to inform new covers designs made using 3D Printed materials.
We anticipate the outcomes of this work will lead to improvements to the aesthetics, durability
and production of lower limb prosthesis.

We are looking for prosthetic users and prosthetic clinicians/technicians/resident/interns to
take part in a 10–15-minute online survey. This survey will ask you about your experiences and
opinions on transtibial prosthetic covers. There is no compensation for responding, however, at
the end of the survey you will be given the option to enter a draw to win one of two $100 VISA
gift cards.

To be eligible for this study, participants must:

  • Either a lower limb prosthetic user (below knee amputation) OR
  • A licenced Prosthetic Clinician or Technician
  • Prosthetic Resident/Intern
  • Be 12 years of age or older
  • Be able to communicate effectively in English
